The Daintree Discovery Centre is an easy 2 hour drive north of Cairns along one of the most beautiful coastal roads in the world. The scenery is unparalleled - sparkling azure blue waters contrast dramatically with the lush green of the tropical rainforest. Fringing reefs hug the coast providing an introduction to the wonders of the world famous Great Barrier Reef.
Crossing the Daintree River (home to Australia's infamous Salt Water Crocodile) via a vehicular ferry is an experience not to be missed.
The road is sealed as far as Cape Tribulation (35 kms north of the Discovery Centre)
A huge range of hire cars are readily available in Cairns and surrounding tourist venues; from large recreational campers to the most economical mini sedan.
Please note you do not need a 4WD vehicle to drive to the Daintree Discovery Centre - the road is sealed all the way and readily accessible by both 2 wheel drive vehicles as well as motor bikes and cycles.
There are also a number of tour companies who offer day trips that include the Daintree Discovery Centre as part of their itinerary. These include Reef and Rainforest Connections, Down Under Tours and Tropical Horizons Tours.
People travelling on a tight budget also have a number of other economical alternatives including the local bus service provided by Coral Reef Coaches which departs Cairns daily.
The turn off to the Discovery Centre is 10 kms north of the ferry with the car park at the rear of the property.
