Why visit Daintree Discovery Centre?
- The Daintree Discovery Centre has become an essential 'port of call' for a number of commercial tour groups visiting the Daintree area.

- It is the only Interpretive Centre of its kind in Far North Queensland and offers extensive all-weather facilities - invaluable when it is pouring with rain!

- Being an accredited Wet Tropics Information Centre DDC boasts a variety of world class eco- tourism experiences for people of all ages and interests including highly entertaining and informative guided tours of our 400 metre elevated boardwalk and the spectacular 23 metre high Canopy Tower and Aerial Walkway.

- It provides a perfect introduction to the rainforest and the local environs for a wide range of people regardless of age, interest and physical ability.

- The Centre has the capacity to cater for groups of 100+ at any given time and still provide an unforgettable rainforest experience.

- With appropriate notice experienced staff will design a unique program of events to suit your specific needs - and in particular, the needs of specialty groups.
How much time does it take?
Group visits vary according to the needs, interests and time constraints of the people involved. While the average commercial tour group tends to spend about one hour at the Centre, the time varies enormously. For instance, those who just want to focus on the Canopy Tower might spend a little as 30-40 mins, while other special interest groups, international students or visiting research personnel often prefer to spend the whole day exploring various aspects of the rainforest.
The Centre has also been involved in a successful exchange program with US College students who use the Discovery Centre as their study base whilst in the Daintree area. Such groups often spend a week or more at a time - interacting with visitors to the region, gathering rainforest data and generally tapping into the wealth of expertise available from the staff and management of the Discovery Centre.
Catering for a diversity of interests
The Centre is an ideal venue for a wide range of visitors from various social and cultural backgrounds. It is extremely popular with overseas visitors - especially people from non-English speaking countries.
The interpretive information is presented in a variety of formats that are very easy to follow. In addition to a large, highly graphical display, a 48 page interpretive guide book is available for those who wish to explore the Centre on their own. This information is also available in a variety of languages
In addition to an extensive interpretive display area visitors can explore the flora and fauna of the area via 400 mts of raised boardwalks. These elevated boardwalks are extremely important because they allow ease of access to the rainforest with minimal impact on the environment.
However, the Canopy Tower is 'what everyone wants to see' and the highlight for many visitors. After all, much of what happens in the rainforest does not occur at ground level.
At 23 metres high, the Canopy Tower provides a unique opportunity to observe the rainforest from 5 different observation platforms - from the forest floor to the upper most reaches of the rainforest canopy. Our Aerial Walkway links the new entrance building and coffee shop with the Canopy Tower and Interpretive Display Centre. It offers wonderful views of the mid level rainforest and McLean's Creek.

Options for Group Tours
Most tour groups tend to choose one of the following options. However, such choices are flexible and can be tailored to suit the needs of your particular group.
- Option 1: Our 'Standard Service' for regular commercial clients and charter groups includes morning/afternoon tea followed by a comprehensive and highly entertaining guided tour of the Aerial Walkway, Cassowary Circuit, Bush Tucker Trail or the Canopy Tower. Such groups also have full use of all interpretive facilities, theatre and the Display Centre - a definite bonus in inclement weather!
- Option 2: A deluxe morning/afternoon tea service is also available to regular commercial clients and specialty charter groups on request. This service includes the use of our boutique café area and the provision of a more 'up-market' morning/afternoon tea followed by our comprehensive and entertaining guided tour. Such groups also have full use of all interpretive facilities, theatre and the Display Centre.
- Option 3: A self guided tour of the Centre conducted by your own guide/coach captain and full use of all interpretive facilities, theatre and the Display Centre. This could include morning or afternoon tea if required. Alternatively you may choose to provide your own refreshments.
- Option 4: Any of the above with a 48 page interpretive booklet provided at cost
- Option 5: Entry only - visitors buy their own refreshments and interpretive booklet if they wish.
Note: In each of the above mentioned scenarios include morning/afternoon tea for your drivers free of charge.
School Groups
We are always pleased to welcome school groups to the Discovery Centre and encourage them to make best use of the wealth of expertise and the world class facilities we have to offer.
In recent years rainforest ecosystems have become an integral part of the Environmental Studies curricula in most Australian schools. The Daintree Discovery Centre boasts a variety of educational resources including a small but well stocked reference library and as such is well positioned to help teachers and students tailor their activities in order to get the most out of their visit.
The Centre also has a number of activity sheets suitable for a range of age groups. However, with sufficient notice our staff will be happy to work with you in developing a tailor-made 'Discovery Program' to suit the specific needs of your students.
Extensive static displays, interactive touch screen kiosks, a DVD theatre showing a selection of nature based films provide an exciting introduction to the rainforest. A comprehensive 48 page interpretive booklet which includes a self-guided tours of the Aerial Walkway, Cassowary Circuit, Bush Tucker Trail or this Canopy Tower. Information about the local area, early exploration and settlement, birds, reptiles, frogs as well as the local weather is an additional resource which is highly valued by visitors of all ages.
As with commercial tour groups, school groups have a number of options to choose from when they plan a visit to the Discovery Centre. Some groups might elect to just do a quick tour of the Centre (if time is limited) while others might opt to do a full day 'Discovery Program'.
